Depression?

|_|July 01, 2008 8:14 p.m.|_|

My mother keeps saying there's going to be another Great Depression. She keeps talking about stocking up on non-perishables and how she's gonna be eating beans and bread.

The gas prices are the cause. The government decided this. If there's gonna be anything, the first ones to fall will be the rich. I suppose it's about time some of these constipated few get knocked off their axis for a little bit.

"The British royal family is feeling the economic pinch." Don't even give me that. Whatever they lost, they use that to buy toilet paper in one week. They blow their noses on that amount of money. The situation's apparently not so bad that they have to stop producing the 75th iPhone they've made since this iPod business began.

My mother is stuck in the past she never lived in. If anyone will survive in a Depression, it's her. She uses less technology than anyone I know and as my sister and I were growing up, we learned genetically to use the forces of nature if push came to shove.

They don't even know if tomatoes are actually the cause of the Salmonella scare sweeping the country, so there's your first problem. My dad has a garden in his backyard, so we could easily grow our own food. My grandma owns land in acres which used to be filled with corn crops. The land is obviously fertile so things can still be grown there. Provided we wouldn't be able to grow as much as we could, seeing as there is a drought in some states, but it would last us.

We've got more now than we did then. We got through a Depression once, we'll get through it again.
